BCPS: Accountability and Action
Our schools are our greatest investment, but for too long, that investment has lacked true oversight. While BCPS operates with a level of independence, the County Council is not powerless. It is time we stop making “suggestions” and start demanding results.
- Strengthening Oversight: I will champion legislation at the state level to grant the Inspector General full oversight authority over BCPS. We need to continue to push for this oversight so we have an independent entity to ensure that every dollar intended for the classroom actually gets there.
- A Reality Check: Along with the BOE and our County Executive, we need to be having honest and direct conversations about what’s happening in classrooms. We cannot blindly accept the word of the Superintendent that everything is fine, or ignore concerns when they are brought up.
- Listening and Showing up: My experience as a PTA President and a five-year volunteer with the Student Support Network has taught me that no amount of discussion can replace boots on the ground. If you’ve ever been to a PTA meeting, you know they’re not just school-related formalities, they’re windows into their communities.
- Commitment: My goal is to attend at least one PTA meeting from every school in District 7 every year I’m in office, and that starts now. I am currently reaching out to PTAs across the District, but if you have an upcoming meeting, please contact me! I am excited to hear what’s happening at schools across the District from the volunteers who are doing the hard work!
